Dave Spridgeon and his wife Angie, former partners of a local Findlay bourbon bar, have completed renovations of their three story 1920s inspired bourbon bar, The Renaissance of Tiffin the bar's new general manager, Ashley Caudill, has been instrumental in its restoration including demolition, sanding, staining, painting, and the coordination of contractors for updated electrical and a new HVAC system.

Customized structures have been designed, constructed, and incorporated by local Tiffin residents and businesses. Spridgeon says it’s about the atmosphere: “If I go to another city, I want to taste their flair, to go home and tell people, ‘you won’t believe it, you need to experience this.’” The Renaissance of Tiffin is sure to transport guests back to the end of prohibition and provide the highest grade of hospitality from staff dressed in time period gowns and coat tails. Along with whiskey and cocktails,

The Renaissance offers its own single barrel batch of Knob Creek. Guests may purchase and store their bottle in the bar's bottle keep. Upon completion, guests receive a pair of engraved glasses, a customized T-shirt, and their bottle personalized for display. “We have already been collaborating with other downtown businesses,” explains Spridgeon. As an example, Empire 138 is across the street and will be providing a custom menu including small plates delivered to the Renaissance while guests are enjoying their cocktails.

Caudill also plans to hold regular events, including a monthly whiskey tasting featuring distilleries, and commemorative events such as a Kentucky Derby party and an annual end of Prohibition celebration.  The third floor of the bourbon bar, Barrel 51, can be rented for a nominal fee for private life celebrations like wedding showers, baby showers, birthdays, or anniversaries. Fritz and Sue Smith purchased Frosted Foods in 1984. They renamed the business Smith Family Frosted Foods and for Fritz it fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning his own business. In 2007 Aaron and Alex bought the Smith Family Frosted Foods business from their parents and in 2009 moved from the 62 N. Monroe Street building to their present facility at 1773 West County Road 54. The name of the business was shortened to Smith Family Foods to reflect the expanded product lines, offering far more than just frozen items.

With the move to the new facility Smith Family Foods upgraded from a State-inspected to a USDA Federally-inspected meat processing facility and has increasingly expanded the number of items produced in-house to include: Fresh and frozen hamburger patties, Chopped Steaks, Breaded Veal, Breaded Chicken Tenders, Breaded Chicken Chunks, Fritz’s Special Bratwurst Links and Patties, Granny Smith’s Fresh Deli Salads and Bratworks Branded Bratwurst, to name a few, as well as their traditional custom-cut steaks and chops.

Over the years Fritz, Sue, Aaron and Alex have attributed the success of the business to their loyal employees and loyal customers.  “Family” is not just a word in the name but part of the day-to-day philosophy that drives the business.  Quality products, family values and exceptional service along with competitive pricing are the building blocks that will guide this family business into the next generation.

In October of 2017 Smith Family Foods has taken another step to further our commitment to the community by opening the Smith Family Foods Wholesale Outlet Store, which is open to the public. We are extremely excited about this new addition to our business and are looking forward to filling your family's food needs. Stop in and check out wide variety and Great Deals. The Outlet is open Monday thru Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. and is located at 1773 W CR 54 Tiffin.
