Seneca County Showcase - Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are still needed for the Seneca County Manufacturing Showcase that will take place on Friday, October 14 at Heidelberg University.

Over 800 9th grade students from Seneca County schools will be at the showcase!  The purpose of the event to is promote manufacturing as a career.  Please visit the website to volunteer.  You do not need to be working at a manufacturing facility to volunteer.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to mingle with area businesses as well as our area youth.

We also have a few openings left for manufacturers to participate in the showcase.  Please contact Carol Owen  to participate as a manufacturer.

Check out this powerpoint for more information on the event.

Message from the President: Fair Labor Standards Act Final Rule Changes

The Fair Labor Standards Act is a federal law that requires employers pay a minimum wage and time and a half for overtime—anything over 40 hours—to all non-exempt employees.

Regulations have generally required each of three tests to be met for the FLSA’s exemption to apply: the employee must be paid a predetermined and fixed salary that is not subject to reduction, or the salary basis test; the amount of salary paid must meet a minimum specified amount, or the salary level test; and the employee’s job duties must primarily involve executive, administrative, or professional duties as defined by the regulations, or the duties test.

The change on December 1 specifically affects those who are typically exempt due to the salary level test. This “final rule” has been increased from $23,660 to $47,476 per year, meaning people falling into that category will face a significant increase in their required salary to remain exempt.
